Análisis de las amenazas e implicaciones del cambio climático sobre los tiburones

Resumen

La vulnerabilidad es una función que depende de la exposición, la sensibilidad y la capacidad de adaptación. Este concepto es aplicado al estudio de las amenazas que enfrentan los tiburones por las modificaciones ecotróficas causadas por el cambio climático. El enfoque de esta investigación discute la dicotomía que existe entre las características evolutivas, estrategias de vida y dominio de estos condrictios versus las transformaciones sistémicas e irreversibles que impone este fenómeno de megaescala. La evidencia mundial indica que el cambio climático es un vector propagador de modificaciones ecosistémicas tan intensas y constantes que supera las estrategias de vida de los tiburones, llevando al límite de su resilencia los ciclos reproductivos, oferta alimentaria, acceso a refugios, tasas de crecimiento y patrones de dispersión. La ruta evolutiva que llevó a los tiburones a dominar los ambientes acuáticos los enfrenta con amenazas que superan las capacidades de respuesta efectiva.
