Aves y características de hábitat en un bosque tropical muy húmedo en el Caribe costarricense

Resumen

El trabajo de campo del estudio del que aquí se da cuenta fue efectuado entre agosto y diciembre de 2002 en los alrededores de Tortuguero, en la costa norte del Caribe de Costa Rica. Se realizó una caracterización de la comunidad de aves en cinco sitios diferentes con la finalidad de sugerir estrategias apropiadas de manejo, de los que dos corresponden a bosques intervenidos y tres a bosques primarios. La abundancia relativa y riqueza de especies fueron determinadas a partir de datos obtenidos por medio de la técnica de captura con redes de niebla y conteos de búsqueda de aves. Se estimó el número de frutos presentes para las aves en cuatro de los sitios, en forma simultánea con las sesiones de captura y los conteos de búsqueda de aves. Se registró un total de 128 especies de aves, las especies migratorias fueron más comunes en los hábitat intervenidos mientras que las residentes tienden a evitar más estos hábitat. En los sitios con mayor abundancia de frutos se registró un mayor número de especies de aves frugívoras.
