Abstract

This article explores the relationship between the Chapui Asylum and the Costa Rican society in the first half of the 20th century. The guiding thread is the existence of a social philanthropic elite and its public action. This article belong to a larger research proyect in progress about mental health and the period of change that culminated with the violent conflict of 1948.
