La ingeniería civil y la preservación de patrimonios transculturales en el Caribe y Centroamérica

Resumen

La ingeniería civil juega un papel fundamental en la salvaguarda de los patrimonios transculturales en regiones vulnerables como el Caribe y Centroamérica, donde los desastres naturales representan una amenaza constante. Este artículo explora cómo las prácticas ingenieriles se integran con estrategias de conservación para proteger sitios históricos que reflejan la fusión de culturas indígenas, europeas, africanas y asiáticas. A través de un análisis de casos reales, se examinan impactos de terremotos, huracanes e inundaciones en lugares emblemáticos como el Casco Antiguo de Panamá, las Escuelas Nacionales de Arte en Cuba y las fortificaciones en Puerto Rico. Se destaca la importancia de evaluaciones de riesgo climático, intervenciones sísmicas y planes de
adaptación urbana que incorporan tecnologías modernas sin alterar la esencia cultural. Desde una perspectiva integradora, se observa que la colaboración entre ingenieros, historiadores y comunidades locales es clave para mitigar daños y promover la resiliencia. El estudio revela que, aunque los desafíos son intensos debido al cambio climático, las soluciones ingenieriles adaptadas pueden preservar estos legados para generaciones futuras, de manera que fomentan un equilibrio entre desarrollo y herencia. En definitiva, la ingeniería no solo repara estructuras, sino que revitaliza identidades colectivas en contextos transculturales.
