Artificial Intelligence (AI) Use Policy

MHSalud: Journal in Human Movement Sciences and Health recognizes the growing use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in research, academic writing, and the editorial process. To protect the integrity, transparency, and quality of its publications, the Journal establishes the following policy, applicable to authors, reviewers, and editors.

Scope

This policy applies to every stage of the Journal's editorial process: manuscript preparation, peer review, and editing, for both articles and supplementary material (figures, tables, audiovisual abstracts).

Principles

• AI cannot be listed as an author. AI tools do not meet authorship criteria, as they cannot take legal or ethical responsibility for the content. They will not be recognized as authors or co-authors, nor credited as such, in any manuscript, figure, or material published by the Journal.
• Mandatory disclosure of AI use. All authors must disclose whether generative AI tools were used at any stage of manuscript preparation (writing, translation, data analysis, grammar review, image generation, among others). This disclosure must be included in the Cover Letter and in the body of the manuscript, in the Methods or Acknowledgments section as appropriate, stating the tool used, its purpose, and how the reliability of the output was verified.
• Prohibition of misuse. AI may not be used to generate complete manuscripts, substantive sections of results or discussion, or to manipulate, fabricate, or alter research data.
• Mandatory human verification. Authors are responsible for reviewing, validating, and ensuring the accuracy, originality, and scientific soundness of any AI-assisted content prior to submission. AI-generated content may not be used as a primary source of information.
• Full author responsibility. The use of AI tools does not exempt authors from responsibility for the integrity, originality, and accuracy of the article. Failure to disclose AI use may be considered a breach of publication ethics.
• Confidentiality in peer review. Reviewers must not upload manuscripts, or excerpts thereof, to publicly available generative AI tools, as this compromises the confidentiality of the evaluation process. Any use of AI by reviewers to support the drafting of their report must be disclosed to the editorial team.
• Editorial oversight. The editorial team reserves the right to request clarification on any disclosed use of AI and to reject manuscripts in which undisclosed or improper use of these tools is detected.

How to disclose AI use

Below are suggested disclosure statements according to the type of assistance received. These should be adapted and included in the Methods or Acknowledgments section of the manuscript.

Type of use	Suggested wording
No AI use	The authors declare that no artificial intelligence was used in the conceptualization or writing of this article.
Writing	We used the artificial intelligence tool [TOOL NAME] to support the writing of this article. The generated content was reviewed and edited by the authors to ensure accuracy and consistency with the study's objective.
Data analysis	We used [TOOL NAME] to analyze the collected data. The results obtained were validated using additional methods to avoid bias.
Translation	We used [TOOL NAME] to translate parts of this article. A thorough review was carried out to ensure translation quality and accuracy.
Grammar review	We used [TOOL NAME] for the spelling and grammar review of this article. A final review was conducted to ensure compliance with the Journal's standards.
Image generation	We generated [SPECIFY WHICH] using [TOOL NAME]. We verified that the images accurately represent the data and theories discussed in the article.

 

Non-compliance with this policy, including failure to disclose the use of AI tools, may be considered a breach of the Journal's Code of Ethics and Good Practices and may result in rejection of the manuscript at any stage of the editorial process.
