Plagiarism detection policy

The Journal Ciencias Marinas y Costeras, REVMAR, requires that all the actors involved in the editorial process of the articles, whether they are staff of the editorial team, review or authorship, follow international ethical standards in the publication of the articles.

To review and detect plagiarism, The Journal Ciencias Marinas y Costeras, REVMAR, has the Turnitin software that allows the verification of coincidences in the text as a first filter. Any case of coincidences in the text will be checked before the peer evaluation of the article and the authors will be asked to: (1) clarify the status of the coincidences, (2) correct them if its possible or (3) proceed with the rejection if it is assessed that the amount of coincidences contravene the originality requirement of the manuscript. In all cases the Journal will provide a document with the observations on the coincidences detected.

Some of the responsibilities of the participants are:

Editor (a): should adopt the best standards and methods for peer review, so that all articles are reviewed by specialized and trained evaluators. Clarify that reviewers contribute to the detection of plagiarism and potential ethical anomalies. It should ensure that the journal has clear publishing standards. Finally, the editor should advise both authors and reviewers on the entire editorial process in an effort to promote appropriate research and publication behavior.

Authors: they must develop original research in a responsible and ethical manner; likewise the results will be presented in an honest, complete, and transparent manner, so that the scientific community can corroborate or replicate the data. They should not send the manuscript simultaneously to other journals for evaluation. In addition, give the attribution to the studies on which they based their research, the entities that financed it, as well as declare if there is a conflict of interest. Finally, the authors must take responsibility for the published research.

Evaluators: they must communicate to the editor about possible fraud or plagiarism of the evaluated investigations, and they must evaluate the articles objectively and in the established time. Moreover, they must support the reasons why an article is rejected or provide suggestions that can strengthen the publication.

Other: Publications derived from a single research project, thesis, or second part of a previous article should be clearly identified to recognize the primary publication to which reference is made.
