Abstract

We report nine species of fresh water fishes in the streams of Isla del Caño (08°42’4’’N, 83°53’20’’W), five are new records for this island. Rivulus hildebrandi y Branchyrhaphis rhabdophora are the only representatives of the fresh water secondary families found in this study. The rest of the species are included in the freshwater peripheral and marine peripheral categories. The presence of these species at Isla del Caño can be explained by dispersion and vicariant processes.
