Anfípodes pelágicos (Amphilochidea, Hyperiidea e Senticaudata) do Pacífico da Costa Rica: novos registros e uma lista atualizada de espécies

Na Costa Rica, os estudos sobre zooplâncton que abordam os anfípodes pelágicos são escassos e a lista de espécies prévia a este trabalho inclui somente 41 espécies da subordem Hyperiidea. Este estudo teve como objetivo atualizar a lista de espécies de anfípodes pelágicos do Pacífico da Costa Rica e registrar espécies previamente desconhecidas no país. Em julho de 2012, foi realizada a amostragem do zooplâncton de águas próximas à Isla del Coco, Costa Rica, em 26 estações oceanográficas. Um total de 13 espécies de anfípodes pelágicos das subordens Amphilochidea (1), Hyperiidea (11) e Senticaudata (1) foi identificado nas águas do Pacífico costarricense. Os novos registros aumentam o conhecimento da riqueza de anfípodes pelágicos no Pacífico da Costa Rica a 54 espécies, sugerindo a necessidade de explorar mais a diversidade destes organismos na região.
