Ethics, geography and the case of Costa Rica

This essay aims to initiate a dialogue for understanding and raising awareness of ac-
tions revolving around the ethical principles of geography as a profession and applied science, drawing on geography from similar studies conducted in this field by experts in
philosophy, epistemology of sciences in general, and geography in particular. Initially,
a theoretical, conceptual, and epistemological foundation of the ethical framework that
underpins all human activity will be briefly presented. Then, the importance of these
principles will be discussed from a critical approach that highlights the complexity and
contradictions of responsibly assuming such principles in the real world of professional
work. The text concludes with a reflection on the present and future the ethical and moral challenges challenges that geography faces in terms of its subject matter and the performance of the profession in Costa Rica.
