Danza Abend: un grupo independiente fundado por la maestra Cristina Gigirey

Abstract

The beginnings and evolution of Danza Abend are inseparable from the artistic practice and teaching of the teacher Cristina Gigirey. It is impossible to refer to Abend without mentioning Gigirey, from her origins in her motherland Uruguay, and how she came to Costa Rica, where her artistic career, practice and teaching are legacies that remain over time. The following is an itinerary of this artistic group that gathers the major milestones of experimental and performing Costa Rican dance which had, as well, Latin American projection.

Author Biography

  • Gabriela Dorries-Gigirey

    Bailarina, maestra y coreógrafa alemana
    residente en Costa Rica. Inicia sus
    estudios de ballet en 1980 con su madre,
    la maestra Cristina Gigirey. Realizó
    giras internacionales a México, Chile,
    Venezuela, Estados Unidos, Nicaragua,
    entre otros, con el grupo Danza
    Abend. Fue asistente de Gigirey por
    14 años en la Escuela de Danza de la
    Universidad Nacional. Dirigió el grupo
    Abend Juvenil, semillero de talentos
    jóvenes, desde 1996 hasta el 2006. En
    el 2004 ganó el premio a mejor interpretación
    femenina en la XIII Muestra
    de cine y video de Costa Rica, por el
    video-arte de Hilda Hidalgo sobre la
    coreografía La casa de Bernarda Alba
    de Gigirey. Bailó importantes obras
    del repertorio de Abend, entre ellas:
    Proceso, Aproximaciones 1,2,3, Las madres,
    Aquella mujer, Totentanz y otras.
    Además, ha trabajado con destacados
    coreógrafos como Cora Flores, Rogelio
    López, Jorge Ramírez, Marianela Vargas,
    Rolando Brenes e Ileana Álvarez.
