Manejo médico de 26 casos clínicos en equinos con obstrucción esofágica atendidos durante un periodo de 6 años (2008-2014): revisión, diagnóstico y protocolos usados

Resumen

Este artículo discute sobre la obstrucción esofágica en la especie equina, con el objetivo de hacer conciencia sobre el problema, revisar la bibliografía especializada en el tema, recomendar el diagnóstico diferencial temprano y proponer alternativas terapéuticas para el manejo correcto de la situación. El diagnóstico está basado primordialmente en una anamnesis médica apropiada y un examen clínico general sistemático, respaldado en algunos casos por estudios de laboratorio e imágenes médicas tales como radiografía, ultrasonido y endoscopía. El manejo médico debe orientarse hacia una adecuada terapia de soporte metabólico, correcta manipulación de la obstrucción para prevenir el daño permanente al esófago y el uso de antibióticos sistémicos para tratar la neumonía bacteriana secundaria causada por broncoaspiración. Se describe un protocolo clínicamente exitoso, respaldado por la bibliografía y basado en más de treinta años de experiencia de los autores.
