Resumo

Apesar da enorme lacuna entre as práticas da disciplina histórica e o que é possível fazer na história escolar, Seixas estava convencido de que o pensamento histórico pode dar uma contribuição importante para o ensino de história, usando e conceituando as ferramentas, os processos e as formas de pensamento histórico que ajudam os alunos a entender quem são, onde estão e o que podem fazer (como indivíduos, como membros de vários grupos que se cruzam e como cidadãos com funções ou responsabilidades em um mundo complexo, cheio de conflitos e em rápida mudança). Para enfrentar esses importantes desafios, são necessários novos desenvolvimentos teóricos, empíricos e práticos. É necessário mais trabalho teórico para articular os objetivos do ensino de história que podem ser aplicados em vários contextos e acomodar diversas formas de consciência histórica.
