Áreas prioritarias para la capacitación de los docentes de la matemática en enseñanza media

Based in opinions of 171 High School Mathematics teachers from the Central Region of Costa Rica, this paper establishes the priority areas for the training of teachers in this discipline. The results show that mathematical contents are not the most important elements in this process, even though they cannot be left aside. According to the opinions collected, there are four priority areas for the developing training programs: the use of new technologies, didactics and specific methodologies for each are of mathematics, the inclusion of the History of Mathematics as a part of the curriculum and finally, the use of mathematics as an instrument to incorporate situations from daily life into classroom work.
